By Marcus Check out our extensive news articles on American Idol at AmericanIdolHeadlines.com American Idol Hollywood Round One On February 3, 2009, Summary of Episode 8 By Marcus It is Lil Rounds who wowed the judges in the trials wowed them again with “I’ll Always Love you.” But Dennis Brigham was unable to tune down his comic facial gestures and was told to pack his bag. He would not, however, leave as a gentleman, but pouted about the judge’s decisions and told them they “suck as judges.” Well, Dennis, you certainly suck as a singer. Nathaniel Marshall broke into tears telling the judge that his selection “The Anchor Holds” was his safe harbor song when things in his private life were junkyard bad. Strong singer Anoop Desai made the cut. Talented Jasmine Murray sparkled but the early confidence of Rose Flack faltered during rehearsals where she clearly wasn’t on top of her game. But when she stood in front of the judges, her raw natural talent was evident with “Dock of the Bay.” Male singers Stephen Fowler, Jorge Nunez and Von Smith all made the cut but Jorge has the real talent among these three. And then we had the comedian singer, Nick Mitchell dance prancing and imploring the judges to “love me.” Well, he made the cut and he undoubtedly will be this season’s the comic relief. Tigress Jackie Tohn sings with the soul of Janice Joplin. Danny Gokey sings to the memory of his late wife, Sofie. And Jamar Rogers just sings beautifully. The thin voice of bikini girl Katrina Darrell accompanied by her overt flirtatious manner has mesmerized Simon and Randy into making the cut. But the cooler heads of Paula and Kara clearly see that beneath Katrina’s pretty face is not star singer. Gentle care-taker Jessica Furney and puppy lover Sharon Wilbur did not make the cut. Even Patricia Roman with her supportive family failed to impress. Oil roughneck worker Michael Sarver easily made the cut but earlier favorite Jesus Valenzuela didn’t. David Osmond easily made the cut but Erika Wesley lost her debate for a second chance as only Paula had voted “maybe.” Punk rocker Emily Hughes had practiced “I Put A Spell on You” but made a last minute switch to “Excuse me, Mister.” That was a song she didn’t rehearse and narrowly made the cut by the thickness of one of her tattoos. All told, 104 will return to continue battling for the Idol crown while 43 others are heading back home with dreams of Hollywood fading into the night.
