This week the contestants were in Jacksonville, Florida where the temp is hot and the humidity clings like a tight dress.

The very first singer rocked and wailed “Let’s Get It On” which resulted in Joshua Ulloa winning the first of tonight’s 16 gold tickets.

Walking into the audition with her Shih Tzu dog, Sasha, who sat in Simon’s lap while Sharon Wilbur won herself a gold ticket with “Superstar.” She is heading to Hollywood but I am not sure if Sasha will be flying out with her.

Dana Murano squeaked “Through the Fire” and gratefully left the stage.

Singing like a flat tire, sixteen year old Kaneswa Finnie has been singing since age 5, but failed to impress with “Caught Up In The Rapture of Love.

But beauty queen and Miss Florida Latino USA singer Julissa Veloz won a gold ticket with “Share My Life.”

A gregarious Darin Darnell broke down in tears singing “It’s Hard To Say Goodbye.” But in reality, it was not hard to say “bye bye, Darin.”

Then we had Naomi Sykes giving us a shrill “Lovin’ You.” Even though the judges were having fun playing musical laps, she failed to win anything but a cold splash  of reality.

Sixteen year old Jasmine Murray is the family’s baby girl, but although her voice lacked vocal depth, she still won a gold ticket to Hollywood with “Big Girls Don’t Cry.”  Nonetheless, I don’t think she has a chance.

Loving both physics and music, George Ramirez sang “Waiting For Me” too low, too soft, and very badly. I think he better stick to rock climbing with his buddies.

Failing to impress the judges during last years auditions, TK Hash returned singing “Imagine.” Even though he over did it, he was good enough to grab a gold ticket.

Playing his guitar and singing on the streets in the bars, Michael Perelli is convinced that he has a place in the music world. Well, maybe in the local bars but certainly not in Hollywood as he nervous twittered “Jumper.”

But all was not lost because something quite unusual happened for Anne Marie Boskovich.  After she sang a few lines, the judges knew that there was talent lurking under her shyness. They told her to “go out, and come back in as a star.” So Anne Marie returned with new clothing, new make-up, better hair and shoes. But much more importantly, she came back with a new attitude that “I am a star.” And shine did she shine with “Bubbly” which easily won her golden ticket. Of all the singers that sang tonight, she was the standout.

And that wraps up tonight’s American Idol January 27 tryouts. Don’t forget to return here tomorrow night for my wrap-up written just for you.
