American Idol - "The Top 7 Compete", April 14, 2009

Tonight we will hear the Top Seven battle it out as the pressure mounts. There can be no errors. There can be no “okay songs” because there is too much  riding on each individual performance. This evening’s theme is” music from the movies” under the careful and demanding directionship of Quentin Tarantino.

First up was Allison Iraheta mixing her own special hot salsa into “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” She started softly and built it o a rousing finale that makes her one of the best contestants. She has such stage command and self confidence which appears to be genuine and honest. Call 1 866 436 5701 to vote for Allison. 

After a couple weeks of not knowing who he was and sometimes seeming not to know where he was, Anoop Desai has finally found himself with “Everything I Do, I Do For You.” He was impressive enough to make an audience impression. Call 1 866 436 5702 to vote for Anoop.

One of the hottest rock songs of all time is “Born To Be Wild.” And our creatively inventive hard rocker Adam Lambert brought it new meaning with flashes of lightning and rages of thunder. He nailed it. The audience was screaming with excitement as we continue to witness the development  of a new rock star. Call 1 866 436 5703 to vote for Adam.

Matt Giraud told us he wanted to make an emotional connection with us singing “Have You Ever Loved A Woman.” There was no connection but rather a disconnect with missed notes, country twangs and pitches that missed the base. He actually seems unable to determine what type of music he should perform. He is searching for his identity with a dimming flashlight that needs new batteries. Call 1 866 436 5704 to vote for Matt.

The more I listen to Danny Gokey, the less impressed I am. He told us that “Endless Love” means a lot to him, but he did not convey that feeling. It was as if he was going through the motions rather than taking ownership of the song. It was just another well done performance by Danny, but there was nothing to take home with us when he was done. Maybe it is better understood this way---it was a nice Applebee’s meal and nothing more.  Call 1 866 436 5705 to vote for Danny.

Like a cooling cup of coffee was how Kris Allen sounded singing “Falling Slowly” and it ended cold and bitter. It was an overall dismal performance. Call       1 866 436 5706 to vote for Kris.

What has happened to our early favorite Lil Rounds? Her performance of “The Rose” was fractured like a dropped egg. It is as if she has lost herself in this competition and rather than steadily improving and impressing us, she is reversing. We are seeing her become less confident, less positive and more unable to compete. Call 1 866 436 5707 to vote for Lil.
