American Idol - "Another Hopeful Crashes"

April 8, 2009

By Marcus

Tonight we will learn the results of over 34 million votes that will send another contestant home.  But before that could happened, we had a surprise visit by Frankie Avalon singing his 1959 smash hit “Venus” as a birthday year treat to Simon.

Ryan then called to the stage center: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Anoop Desai and it was Anoop who took the first of bottom three chairs. This was not a real surprise based upon Anoop’s less than memorable last night’s performance.

Then we listened to Flo Rider with his number one chart hit “Right Round.”

Back to Ryan who told both Danny Gokey and Matt Giraud that they were both safe. But it was Scott MacIntyre who took bottom seat number two. That left just Allison Iraheta and Lil Rounds. Allison who has in the bottom three twice is safe and Lil filled the last of the bottom three seat. Solely based upon last night’s performance, it is not a shock that Scott is there nor is it a bombshell to have Lil there, also, But based overall, Lil needs another opportunity to show that she has found herself and stop trying to be another artist. But rather, seek out her individual identity and sing with the powerful voice. But will she have that opportunity of redemption?

Before we find out, we listened to one of American Idol’s favorite daughters, the roller-skating car hop waitress Kellie Pickler singing “Best Days Of Your Life" from her new self-titled CD.

And now back to the decision making time. Ryan announced that Lil was graced with redemption and will be back. He then told us that out of 34 million plus votes, only 30,000 separated Anoop from Scott and it was Scott who was going home unless the judges “saved” him. And they did not. Anoop will return while Scott MacIntyre leaves this season’s contest. He has good talent but not enough to propel him into the status of a superstar.

He does leave us with a depth of determination and self- drive that we can all envy and learn from his example.

We are now down to the Top Seven finalists. Return here next week for my recap written just for you.
