And the one with the fewest votes will be heading home tonight unless the judges use their one and only “judges save” to give that contestant a second chance. Ryan Seacrest divided the nine into groups of three. The first group consisted of Megan Joy Corkrey, Matt Giraud, and Kris Allen. Group two consisted of Adam Lambert, Lil Rounds, and Allison Iraheta. The third group consisted of Scott MacIntyre, Danny Gokey, and Anoop Desai. But first we listened to American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook performing his newest released single, “Come Back to Me.” And his debut album has gone platinum. David shared the amazing reach of American Idol when he told Ryan that before he was on American Idol, he had cut a single record that sold only 1000 copies in a solid year. Now as an American Idol winner, he went platinum in just three months! And that is the power of American Idol. Now back to the suspense as Ryan announced that in the first group both Kris and Matt were safe but Megan (no surprise) was sent to the bottom three. However, I was surprised that Matt didn’t join her. Then Ryan announced that for the second group, Adam and Lil were safe but Allison was in the bottom three. What? Allison has such pounding talent and she certainly should not be there in the bottom three. Finally from the third group, Scott and Danny were safe but Anoop took the third seat in the bottom three. His being there, especially after last night’s performance, is understandable. So, the bottom three are: Megan, Allison, and Anoop. But before we found out who would be sent packing, we listened to Lady Gaga singing her “Poker Face” song. Oh, did you know that her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta? Ryan then announced that Allison was safe and that left Anoop and Megan Joy. And it was Megan Joy who will be going home after tonight’s performance. The decision was a just decision as she was the weakest singer of the group. And now we are down to the Top Eight contestants. Return here next week for my recap of those remaining eight and don’t forget that it is written just for you.
